Billy was born January 25, 1983 in Bellville, Illinois, to Jeanette and Bill Moody. His family later moved to Burleson, Texas and in 2002, Billy graduated from Burleson High School. A year later, in May of 2003, he joined the Marine Corps. While in the Marines he was deployed twice to Iraq and was honorably discharged in 2007.

Billy married his wife, Lacy, in December 2008 and became a dad to Layla and Korben. Soon after he joined the Army to pursue a steady career. In June 2010 Lacy and Billy had their son, Graydon, and just 6 weeks later he was deployed for the first time to Afghanistan. The family stayed in touch through Facebook, Skype and phone calls, and all he ever talked about was getting back home to his family.

“He would do anything for his family – anything,” his wife, Lacy Moody, said. “Even though he was in the military, we were always first.

William reenlisted and was deployed a second time in November 2012. While in Afghanistan his family moved to Texas for his next assignment at Fort Hood. He was looking forward to getting back home and having his family all together again. When he returned he had plans to retire from the military and pursue a career as a police officer in Texas.

Billy’s remembered for his great sense of humor and a smile that lit up the room. His friends described him as a great guy who would always try to cheer you up if you were feeling down.

During William’s time in the military, he received 13 medals and ribbons including the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the Driver’s Badge for Wheeled Vehicles, among others.
