Former Navy SO1 (SEAL) Jeremy Wise was killed December 30, 2009 in a suicide bombing attack at Foreward Operating Base Chapman in the Khost region of Afghanistan that killed at least seven Central Intelligence Agency employees and three security contractors, including SO1 Jeremy Wise. He is believed to have been killed as CIA officials were concluding a debriefing of an alleged al-Qaida informant, identified by the Associated Press as a Jordanian doctor, who detonated a vest bomb that he was wearing.

Jeremy, the son of Dr. Jean and Mary Wise, was separated from active military service in September 2009, after serving eight years in the U.S. Navy. Jeremy had completed Navy Basic training in January of 2002, and Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training at Virginia Beach in April 2002, transferring to Navy Special Warfare Basic Training in Coronado, California, in May 2002, and graduated in June 2003. He then completed basic airborne training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, in July 2003, and advanced SEAL training in April 2004, before being attached to a SEAL team at Virginia Beach.

U.S. Representative Mike Ross, declared that “Jeremy Wise was a dedicated patriot and a true American Hero. Even after serving honorably as a Navy Seal, he returned to the front lines in Afghanistan working with the CIA to do the important work over there that needs to be done to secure our nation here at home.”

Tragically, the war in Afghanistan also claimed another son of Jean and Mary Wise in 2012, Army SFC Benjamin Wise. SFC Benjamin Wise’s unit was attacked by small-arms fire on January 9, 2012 in Afghanistan and he died 6 days later in a German Medical Center. The couple also has a third son, Beau, serving in the Marines.

SO1 Jeremy Wise is survived by his wife, Dana Wise.
